How to use Blueprint for counseling

Please read the FAQs below and let your counselor know if you have any questions

Hundreds of thousands of people use Blueprint to stay connected to their mental health care plan and track progress between sessions. It makes the classic “how are things going?” question a little bit easier (and more accurate)!

  • Feedback informed treatment is a way to ensure that we are providing you with quality, ethical treatment based on objective data that supports clinical impressions and decision making. In short, it gives us numbers to support (or disprove) our hypothesis based on our training, experience.

By tracking mental health over time, Blueprint can provide both you and your therapist with detailed insights into your progress. This data-driven approach helps in identifying patterns, understanding how different factors affect your mental health, and making informed adjustments to your treatment plan.

At the very least, tracking your mental health in this way can give you a profound sense of self-knowledge and empowerment, and fuel your motivation for going to therapy.

  • Insurance companies are moving towards measurement-based care and have begun requiring assessment data to approve continued services. When they require supporting evidence that using our services is necessary for your wellbeing, your clinician will be able to reference the assessment data to validate their clinical recommendations. Subsequently, your insurance company may continue to cover the costs of counseling services.

  • Blueprint offers much more than just assessments. In the app, you can use daily journaling prompts and symptom trackers, both of which land in your clinician’s inbox, so to speak. These are especially helpful if you struggle with remembering what has happened in-between sessions, or if you want to take note of how changes–in life or therapy–might affect your symptoms.

Additionally, Blueprint gives you the opportunity to use worksheets, such as Thought Records, Diary Cards, and Skill Sheets. You can even set up reminders to complete them! Reviewing them is a great way to prepare before counseling sessions.

  • Blueprint doesn’t replace clinical knowledge. Rest assured that your clinician still relies on their in-depth expertise to determine best practices, diagnosis, and therapy goals. Remember that therapy is a process; not everyone will improve at the same pace. Your clinician is aware of that, and also knows how to adequately diagnose you independently from Blueprint data.
