How much does counseling cost?

Individual and Couples Counseling | Columbia, Mo

Rates for individual counseling  and couples counseling sessions are $100 for one 50-55 minute session (a "therapeutic hour"), with an exception for the first session. Our first session costs double.
*The therapeutic hour is less than one solid hour to account for updating notes and preparing for future clients.

Why is the first session more expensive?

There's a few reasons that are intertwined. First and foremost, it takes more time and effort to get new clients set up with the client portal and new forms.

Secondly (and related to the first point) is that there are back-end costs.

The third and final reason is that your counselor spends time prepping and reflecting before and after your first session. Ultimately, the first session really takes about two hours (if not more) - one of those hours is all behind the scenes work, and the other is full engaged, face-to-face work.

Insurance and Insurance Reimbursement

As of right now, The Counseling Hub does not accept insurance as an in-network provider. The Counseling Hub does, however, provide out-of-network reimbursement, which is also referred to as a superbill. These superbills are really just a bill for services you've received and paid for. They have all of the information that your insurance company will need to consider reimbursing you for said services. The Counseling Hub, however, doesn't have any control over whether or not you are eligible for reimbursement. If you do have insurance, you can call your insurance company and ask if they reimburse for out-of-network providers. If so, then I can provide you with the proper paperwork for insurance reimbursement.

Sliding Scale

The Counseling Hub offers sliding scale rates for individual counseling. The sliding scale is based on annual, gross household income. Please request the sliding scale, if interested, when you call in for scheduling your session or with any questions.

Open Path

If you don't have insurance, don't want to think about superbills, and don't want to ask about a sliding scale, then you should head over to Open Path. It's a one-time fee to join, but then you get to choose a counselor in your area at a reduced rate. It's user friendly and just another option for you.
