These are common reasons people come into counseling. These are the reasons people seek help.

More often than not, folks still feel some sort of shame in reaching out. One of the reasons Tara founded The Counseling Hub was to diminish that sense of shame, to normalize the fact that all people struggle in some way during their lives, and to empower people to grow and heal in their own unique way.

The Counseling Hub is all about connecting, healing, and growing.

As a clinician, my goal is to provide my clients with a space where they can feel comfortable, safe, and empowered. Each session is your time. During that time, my aim is to provide a non-biased, judgement-free, all-inclusive zone, with unconditional positive regard for you. As the client, you are the expert, and I’m just here to help you gain a sense of perspective and guide you to a place where you can feel confident and able to help yourself. It is an honor to walk alongside you on your journey.

Five Fun Facts About Caroline

  1. I got my undergrad degree in musical theatre!
Theatre and counseling are actually very much related. As an actress, one must take a step outside of themselves and their own life, and imagine what it would be like to be in the life of whatever character they are playing. In my theatre classes, our professors often made us do a script analysis, which meant I had to figure out why my character spoke, sounded, moved, thought, and felt the way they did. As a counselor, I can directly relate this to my clients because of the importance of setting aside my biases and imagining what it’s like to be in the client's position.

  2. I’m from Alabama and, be prepared, I do not have an accent!
Literally every time I tell anyone that I am from Alabama, the first thing they say is "No way! But you don't have an accent!" For whatever reason, I never felt that I belonged in Alabama. I have been doing theatre since I was eight, and I was always very aware of my accent. During my time at school for theatre, I took voice and diction and dialect classes and so I was even more aware of where the accent came from and how to avoid it. In addition to this, I have also lived a significant amount of time in NYC and a suburb outside of Philly, so at this point, I don't even know what kind of accent you could say I have!

  3. I have three cats, but I’m allergic to cats!
I know this sounds wild, so hear me out. My whole life I grew up with dogs, so I was never really around cats. When I was a senior in undergrad, a kitten actually ran into my apartment while the door was open and I couldn't just turn her away! As time went on, I started to notice that I was having some reactions and eventually went to the doctor and discovered that I’m very much allergic, but it was already too late because the bond was formed! I have since learned how to manage and since coming to Columbia (just over a year) I now have three cats. How did this happen?? I don't know, but I wouldn't change it for anything!!

  4. Painting is a form of self care.
I have always been artistically inclined, but here recently I have been making a point to get back into art and use painting as a way to express myself and just decompress. I particularly love doing abstract art because I can just go wild and allow whatever is jumbled up in my brain to come out. The best part? You can't really mess up abstract art!

  5. IMDB is everything!
I love watching movies and tv shows, but having a theatre background coupled with the opportunity to do some short films projects, I almost enjoy looking behind the scenes more than watching the actual movie/show. One of my all time favorite things to do is go on to IMBD (International Movie Data Base) and look up movies and go to the "trivia" section. There you can find all kinds of fun facts about the film and often times there are a lot of secrets that can make what you are watching even more interesting! Also, IMDB is great because if you are struggling to find the name of a movie or actor, you can look up anything you know the actor has been in and can see all of the actors in that movie, or you can do the opposite and look up an actor and it will tell you every movie or show they have been involved in!
